Ethical Considerations in Recovery Coaching
Paid by the Alberta Government for Alberta Residents
Description
This is a 16-hour course that builds off the knowledge and skills gained during the Foundations of Recovery Coaching course. It offers a deeper dive into complex ethical dynamics through real-world scenarios, guided reflection, and peer discussion.
We move beyond basic definitions of ethics and explore how values, power dynamics, and context shape the way Recovery Coaches show up in the work.
Topics covered include:
- Fiduciary duty, multi-party vulnerability, and supporting autonomy
- Informed consent, confidentiality, and ethical limits
- Navigating gray areas and responding to ethical dilemmas with confidence
- Coaching with ethical imagination and making decisions guided by values and lived experience
- Practical tools like the HARM model, Wants vs. Needs model, and Ethical Decision-Making model
Coaches leave with increased clarity, a shared language for discussing ethical challenges, and the ability to navigate complex moments with integrity and care.
